About Me

Welcome!

The short:  Heroic and dark fantasy art; video game art and commentary (Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Mount and Blade, The Witcher); ancient and medieval history with emphasis on Norse, Germanic and Russian; stuff about books and writing; a bit of random personal.  Occasionally NSFW.

The long:  I’m female, married, and a long-time student of Germanic history and languages, with an interest also in Russia, the steppe peoples, and Celts.  I grew up in the forest and have lived in several countries.  I play video games and read some historical fiction and fantasy in addition to history.  Lately settled in Silicon Valley, California.

“Sagen und Legenden” is a German phrase meaning sagas and legends.  It refers to the traditional Norse/ Germanic mythic heritage.  To me the phrase also speaks to the power of storytelling and remembrance.  Whether through books, game story, roleplay, art or history, I look for things that tell a story.  I avoid politics and religion except as neutral topics viewed historically.  If you consider “Germanic” equal to nationalist or extremist, you won’t find what you’re looking for here.

Though I’m not a professional academic, I consider history my life vocation and strive for integrity in it.  Sourcing, accuracy and citation are important to me.  However, this is still just a blog, with all those caveats.  I appreciate feedback and correction- as long as it’s worded nicely.  Notes to say hello or pose questions would make me very happy.
